- Sireenah & Rob

The Couple

Sireenah & Rob

How They Met
Her version: As a selfless business school student, I had decided to devote an early Friday morning to charity in the form of bowling with Special Olympics athletes. The morning was fairly uneventful until I noticed a cute guy from my program at UCLA Anderson bowl 5 strikes in a row and begin to relish in his victory over the special needs adults. I thought it quite odd and asked him if he was seriously happy about crushing his fellow athletes’ bowling dreams. With his confidence bolstered by his bowling score, he countered by asking if I had plans that night and if I wanted to join him and many of his first year classmates at a local bar. Mildly intrigued, my friends and I went to the bar and Rob and I chatted for a bit before we each went our separate ways. Two days later, he followed up with an email in which he informed me that his arm was hurting from the bowling.

His version: I remember my first real conversation with Sireenah happening during a UCLA Anderson Challenge for Charity bowling outing in Santa Monica. After somehow rolling five strikes in a row, Sireenah (a.k.a. that cute second year in the next lane over) began to poke fun at me for taking bowling so seriously. I thought it was ironic because she had clearly just knocked down three straight strikes herself but I digress. I was feeling particularly confident after my fortuitous streak of strikes and got her to attend a fellow UCLA Anderson friend’s birthday party later that night.

…then over 50 flights between LA/Minneapolis/NYC later…

The Proposal
On March 1st, 2014, Rob tricked Sireenah into thinking they would be cutting through NYC’s Central Park in order to get to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Instead, he led her to the middle of Central Park to Shakespeare’s Garden where he then got down on one knee and proposed. Although it is still debatable as to whether or not Sireenah ever said “yes”, they will indeed be exchanging vows on Saturday, September 12th 2015.

EAT / DRINK / DO

EAT

Finch & Fork

31 W Carrillo St
Santa Barbara, CA

Finch & Fork is Santa Barbara on a plate. Executive Chef James Siao designs clean, simple California cuisine that showcases the bounty of Santa Barbara County. In an inviting, dark-wood-paneled setting that’s pure classic California, your meal is a playfully nostalgic homage to timeless American dishes, but with a modern twist, from spiked milkshakes to deviled eggs to baked mac ‘n’ cheese. Fresh. Simple. Local.

EAT

Brophy Bros.

119 Harbor Way
Santa Barbara, CA

A true Santa Barbara staple, Brophy Bros is some of the best seafood around. Enjoy the views of the harbor while you wait for a table (they do not accept reservations) and take part in a meal with die hard seafood lovers, young professionals, and sand-sprinkled beachgoers.

EAT

Backyard Bowls

331 Motor Way
Santa Barbara, CA

Serving real, unprocessed, nutritious foods is a core value at Backyard Bowls. Right in the heart of Santa Barbara, they provide Santa Barbara’s alternative for a truly healthy yet delicious breakfast or lunch specializing in acai bowls, real-food smoothies, and much more.

EAT

Bouchon

9 W Victoria St
Santa Barbara, CA

Fresh, local ingredients, prepared with care. Warm, inviting ambience with engaging service at a relaxed, leisurely pace. This is bouchon. They source ingredients using an “as-fresh-and-as-local-as-possible” approach, with fish from the Santa Barbara Channel and produce from the surrounding countryside. They then take into account how these flavors can be presented with local wines. Always a treat!

EAT

Arigato Sushi

1225 State St
Santa Barbara, CA

If you were to ask most locals for their favorite sushi restaurant in town, they would say “Arigato”. They do not take reservations (even if you’re Billy Baldwin who we once spotted waiting for a table) but their fresh fish is worth it.

EAT

Freebirds World Burrito

879 Embarcadero del Norte
Isla Vista, CA

Located in the UCSB college town of Isla Vista just north of Santa Barbara proper, this is a to-die-for mexican food spot. Sireenah seriously still dreams about this place. Think Chipotle but better. If you are not up for the drive to IV, Super-Rica on Milpas or Super Cuca’s on Micheltorena will do the trick closer to downtown Santa Barbara.

Guests can fly directly into Santa Barbara (SBA) however, given that SBA is a smaller airport with less routes, guests can also fly into Los Angeles (LAX) and enjoy the 1 hour 40 min beautiful drive up the coast to Santa Barbara.
